Castlebank isin need of new helpers
The park has been stunning in recent weeks with rhododendrons in full bloom.
Lanark Community Development Trust, which has opened the new horticultural centre and organised the fair dell, has now turned its attention to the pond area.

Hide Ad“We have just started work converting the squelchy grassed area that used to be a pond into a bog garden,” said Trust chairman Sylvia Russell.
“South Lanarkshire Council has kindly contributed the plants, shrubs and trees and our volunteers have been doing a great job getting this project underway.
“Work is also about to start in the terraced gardens, converting the jungly area where the greenhouses used to be into the William Wallace Memorial Rose garden.
“A 7ft sculpture of Wallace has been ordered from the wood carver who did such magnificent work in the Fairy Dell and we hope this will be installed in the autumn.

A Volunteers Day takes place this Saturday, July 11, at the Horticultural Centre for the current hard working band and those interested in giving an hour or two each week. That begins at 11am with a short talk from the park’s educational gardener, Chris, a walk around the park, and a barbecue.All interested will be made most welcome.
