Chow Chows vist vets more than any other dogs
Nearly two thirds (64 per cent) of Chinese Chow Chows have had incidents leading to their owners claiming on their policies. Boxers and Bull Terriers are the second and third most likely to vist the vet.
Chow Chows, which hit the headlines in 2013 after a Chinese zoo tried to pass them off as lions, are susceptible to some serious health problems which may explain the high volume of claims. These include entropion, whereby the eyelids are turned inwards due to their small eyes which causes irritation and pain. Chow Chows also suffer from hip and elbow dysplasia which is malformation of the joints leading in many cases to pain and disability.
