I listened in horror to reports on the radio this week of the super typhoon which has hit the Phillipines.
The figures are almost incomprehensible: a possible death-toll of 10,000, 10 million people homeless, no water, food, electricity or support on hand.

Hide AdAnd, in a time when compassion fatigue has hit many, this horrific disaster will surely spark everyone to help out.
I heard one charity worker saying ‘‘if anyone is out there, if anyone can hear us, help us’’.
The sense of isolation they are feeling must be horrible. And in an already impoverished area the prospect of no food, no clean water and the disease which follows, is heart-wrenching.
