Major cycling event plan scrapped for village of Muirhead
It had been hoped the r 80-mile fixture involving 5,000 cyclists would end at the North Lanarkshire village with a celebratory event.
But a disappointed Councillor John McLaren told the Herald the local gala committee felt it would involve too much work. Instead, the cyclists will pass through the village and the charity race, in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice, will end at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld.More details soon.
Mr McLaren added: “I feel this could have brought as many as 15,000 people boosting local business.”
Round-the-world cyclist Mark Beaumont would have been guest of honour.
