Constituency MSP Jamie Hepburn said: “I was delighted to pop along to the Cumbernauld Centurions’ open day and learn a bit more about their activities and their sport.
“Not even the rotten weather diminished their enthusiasm for their sport. I was intrigued to learn that BMX is now part of the Olympics, and that should hopefully raise its profile and interest in the Cumbernauld Centurions.
“The Centurions have big plans, and as details emerge I think a lot of people will be excited. I certainly was impressed and will be glad to help.”

He said afterwards: “I remember the excitement when the Westfield track was built and it was great to hear about the club’s exciting plans for the future as the Cumbernauld Centurions. Encouraging kids to get on a bike can only be a good thing.
“I havent been on a BMX since I was a kid but I took my courage in my hands and held on for dear life. When that gate drops the only way is down and start pedalling!”
The club meets from 12.30-3.30pm on Saturdays and is open to all ages from four to adult.
