Carluke has its own Kung Fu king in Richard Wonnacott
That man is Richard Wonnacott, whose classes in the town’s Castlehill Industrial Estate are proving hugely popular for people wanting to learn the martial art made famous by the San Francisco-born action movie star who died at age 32 back in 1973.
“The way I teach is certainly not airy-fairy,” said plasterer Richard (41), who is originally from Glynneath in South Wales but now living with his family in Carluke.
“It is straight to the point, no-nonsense stuff.

“But I must be honest and say that it would take me 40 years to get anywhere near the level of Bruce Lee.
“He was a hero of mine and the reason I got into martial arts.
“I loved his films. I wanted to be able to kick the light bulbs out like him. I never did it, but I’m still trying!”
